I januari 2009 fick tio studenter stipendium från Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship (SSES) för att åka till Ahmedabad i Indien för att besöka National Institute of Design (NID). Jag var en av stipendiaterna och arbetade i workshops tillsammans med de indiska studenterna i en workshop vid namn Trendspotting där metoder i future forecasting lärdes ut. Under tiden gjorde jag även en kort dokumentär om upplevelsen.

Kort utdrag ur slutrapporten från kursen:

It is important to recognize that the title of this second annual Thinktank is not ‘The City of the Future’ but The Future of Urban Living because the primary objective of this Thinktank is to forecast scenarios of possible changes in cities and their territorial contexts which will define life in urban centers in the next ten, twenty, and fifty years.

These scenarios will be interdisciplinary and based on the analysis of demographic, economic, technological, and environmental phenomena which will be interpreted using trendspotting as a methodology in order to forecast how the creative economy through design, art, craft, and architecture will shape the future of urban life.

Livet i Ahmedabad skiljer sig väsentligt från vardagen i Stockholm.

Jag kunde inte motstå frestelsen att introducera surströmming i Indien. Mina indiska kollegor trodde varken sina ögon eller näsor när jag öppnade burken och började äta innehållet.
